I'm using WinXP, Why is Format and Delete Partition greyed out in Manage>Disk Management? I want to reformat a second physical data only SATA drive. Now when I right click the option to Initialize Disk is grayed out and I can only see Offline. When I right click and try to initialize it says "The device is not ready." I've tried the more actions > refresh / rescan. When I open Disk Management I see Disk 0 (my laptop drive) and Disk 1 (the connected drive). If you have got another disk, right-click on it and select. Next, right-click on "Disk 0" and open "Properties".

However, if you have connected multiple hard disks and want to convert a particular hard disk, make a note of the specific disk number. After that, check the disk number in the left corner. Search for gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Local Group Policy. To make settings available again in the Settings app, use these steps: Open Start.

Browse to the directory you saved the RDM pointer to in step 5 and select the RDM pointer file and click Next. On the File menu, click Add-Remove Snap-in (CTRL+M), and then select Group Policy Object Editor.
